Planning application submitted for 1 8GW Fearna pumped storage hydro project Scotland

This is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of approximately 7.5 million households. The project will be located in the Scottish Highlands, near the town of Inverurie, and will involve the construction of a 1.8GW pumped hydro storage facility. The facility will use the natural water flow of the River Don to pump water from a lower reservoir to an upper reservoir at high pressure, storing energy in the form of potential energy. The water will then be released back down to the lower reservoir, generating electricity through hydroelectric turbines.

The project would be located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. The Fearna PSH project is a pioneering initiative in the field of pumped hydro storage (PHS) in India.

The project is expected to bring economic benefits to the Highlands, both during and after construction.
