SHC directs coal mining closure in Jhampir

Background of the Sindh High Court’s Order

The Sindh High Court’s order was issued in response to a report submitted by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). The report highlighted the environmental degradation caused by the coal mining operations in the Jhampir area.

The government is also working on a new energy policy that will be implemented in the next two years.

Khaleel-ur-Rehman Coal Mining has started extracting coal from their site in the province of Sindh. The company has been granted permission to mine coal from the site, which is located in the Thar Desert.
